8 Days Ladakh Tour

Day 1Arrival in Leh

Arrive at Leh’s Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport – often regarded as one of the most breathtaking flights globally. On a clear day, marvel at the panoramic views of towering peaks such as K2, Nanga Parbat, Gasherbrum on one side, and the imposing Nun Kun massif seemingly within arm’s reach on the other. Upon arrival, you will be warmly welcomed by our representative and escorted to your hotel for check-in. Spend the rest of the day at leisure to acclimatize to the high altitude. Enjoy a welcome cup of tea or coffee at the hotel. In the evening, explore Leh Palace, the serene Shanti Stupa, and the bustling Leh Market. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 2Leh to Sham Valley (75 km / approx. 4 hours)

After breakfast, embark on a scenic drive along the banks of the Indus River via the Leh-Kargil Highway. Visit the tranquil Gurudwara Pathar Sahib, nestled deep within the Himalayas. Continue to the intriguing Magnetic Hill, where vehicles seemingly defy gravity. Drive onward to the confluence of the Indus and Zanskar rivers, a spectacular natural sight. Before reaching Saspul, take a detour to Likir Monastery, one of Ladakh’s most active spiritual centers, renowned for its giant gilded statue of Maitreya Buddha that dominates the landscape. Continue your journey along the Indus River to Uletokpo or Tingmosgang, stopping at the remote Ridzong Monastery — a hidden gem perched at the end of a steep valley, accessible via a short walk for the adventurous. Check in at your camp or hotel and spend the night immersed in the tranquil surroundings.

Day 3Sham Valley to Leh via Lamayuru (180 km / 5-6 hours)

After breakfast, journey to the ancient Lamayuru Monastery, dating back to the 11th century. En route, marvel at the surreal Moonland landscapes – unique rock formations that resemble the lunar surface, earning this area its evocative nickname. Lamayuru sits majestically amidst the valley surrounded by towering mountains. On your way back to Leh, stop at the historic Alchi Gompa, a temple complex famed for its exquisite 11th-century murals and architecture. Next, visit Basgo, home to the ruins of Ladakh’s 15th-century capital, with its dramatic jagged skyline. Return to Leh for an overnight stay at your hotel.

Day 4Leh to Nubra Valley via Khardung La (120 km / 4-5 hours)

Post-breakfast, set off towards Nubra Valley, crossing Khardung La — the highest motorable road in the world at 18,390 feet (5,602 meters). From this vantage point, soak in sweeping views of the Indus Valley to the south and the majestic Saser massif to the north. Known locally as Ldumra or the “Valley of Flowers,” Nubra is nestled between the Karakoram and Ladakh mountain ranges, averaging an altitude of 10,000 feet. Upon arrival in Nubra, check in at your camp or hotel in Hunder. Spend your evening exploring quaint villages nearby to glimpse the authentic lifestyle of the local people. Optionally, visit a traditional Ladakhi home. Dinner and overnight stay at the camp.

Day 5Nubra Valley to Leh (120 km / 4-5 hours)

After an early breakfast, depart for Hunder to experience a ride on the iconic double-humped Bactrian camels amidst the striking sand dunes of this high-altitude desert, framed by snow-capped peaks. Between Hunder and Diskit, encounter vast sand dunes that contrast starkly with the rugged mountainous terrain typical of Ladakh. Stop at Diskit, the administrative center of Nubra Valley, where you can stroll through the bustling bazaar and observe daily local life. Visit the 515-year-old Diskit Monastery, perched grandly on a hilltop overlooking the valley. In the late afternoon, return to Leh via Khardung La. Check in to your hotel and enjoy a relaxing evening.

Day 6Leh to Pangong Lake (140 km / 4-5 hours one way)

After an early breakfast, depart for the stunning Pangong Lake. En route, visit Shey Palace—the ancient capital of Ladakh—and the iconic “3 Idiots” Rancho School filming location. Continue to Thiksey Monastery, an impressive multi-tiered complex perched on a hill above the village. Proceed toward Changla Pass at 5,486 meters, passing through scenic Sakti Village. Pause at the pass for photos before descending to Tangtse village for a relaxing tea break. From there, pass through several small Changthang settlements before arriving at Pangong Lake, situated at an altitude of 14,000 feet (4,267 meters). This mesmerizing, brackish lake stretches over 133 km, with half lying across the India-China border. Known worldwide after the film “3 Idiots,” this pristine location offers unforgettable natural beauty. Check in at your lakeside camp. Dinner and overnight stay at the camp.

Day 7Pangong Lake to Leh (140 km / approx. 6 hours)

Later, drive back to Leh, stopping en route at Hemis Gompa—the largest and most famous monastery of the Drukpa Kagyu order of Tibetan Buddhism.
