Day 01Delhi → Leh (3,500m)

Begin your journey with a morning transfer to Delhi airport for your flight to Leh. Upon arrival, you will be warmly welcomed and escorted to your hotel. Spend the afternoon at leisure exploring Leh’s vibrant and colorful bazaar, soaking in the local culture and atmosphere.

Day 02Exploring Leh’s Monasteries

After breakfast, embark on a full-day cultural excursion to some of the most iconic monasteries surrounding Leh, including Shankar, Spituk, and Phyang monasteries. In the afternoon, enjoy a leisurely stroll through Leh town, visiting the historic Leh Palace ruins, Leh Gompa, Shanti Stupa, and the bustling local market.

Day 03Shey, Thiksey & Hemis Monastery Excursion

Today’s exploration takes you on a scenic tour of the Indus Valley monasteries. Start with Shey, the ancient capital of Ladakh, home to a magnificent gold-gilded Buddha Sakyamuni statue with a large silver lamp burning in reverence. Next, visit Thiksey Gompa, an impressive multi-tiered monastery perched on a hill, featuring a stunning 30-meter tall gold-plated statue of Maitreya Buddha—the Buddha of the future. Finally, visit the renowned Hemis Gompa, established in the 1630s under royal patronage. Hemis is Ladakh’s largest and wealthiest monastery, famous for its vibrant two-day monastic dance festival held annually in June-July, dedicated to Guru Padmasambhava, the revered “Second Buddha.” Return to your hotel for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 04Leh → Lamayuru (124 km / 4 hrs) → Alchi (50 km / 2 hrs)

After breakfast and some leisure time, depart for Lamayuru, home to one of Ladakh’s oldest and most spectacular monasteries founded in the 10th century by Rinchen Zangpo. Explore its unique setting amid towering mountains and admire its famous collection of carpets, thangkas, and frescoes. Participate in a serene prayer ceremony with monks inside the prayer hall, offering a deeply spiritual experience. Continue your journey towards Alchi, crossing the mighty Indus River, and visit the Alchi Monastery—a rare ground-level monastery famed for its exquisite ancient murals reminiscent of those in Tabo Gompa, Spiti.

Day 05Alchi → Likir → Basgo → Leh (124 km / 4 hrs)

Following breakfast, travel to Likir Monastery, perched on a windy cliff overlooking the village. Founded in the 12th century and rebuilt in the 18th century, it houses a colossal three-story yellow Buddha statue and an impressive museum displaying ancient thangkas and historic weaponry. Next, visit Basgo, a historic capital of lower Ladakh, where you’ll explore the ruins of the royal palace, the Ser Zung Temple adorned with stunning frescoes, and a temple featuring a magnificent gold and copper statue of Maitreya Buddha. Return to Leh in the evening, where you can relax at your hotel or explore the town.

Day 06Leh → Khardung La → Leh (85 km round trip)

Today, enjoy a full-day excursion to Khardung La Pass, the highest motorable road in the world at 5,602 meters (18,390 feet), listed in the Guinness Book of World Records. Take in breathtaking panoramic views of snow-capped peaks and surrounding valleys. After soaking in the majestic landscape, return to Leh for a restful evening.

Day 07Leh → Pangong Lake → Leh (290 km round trip)

Depart early with packed meals for an unforgettable journey to Pangong Lake, crossing the scenic Changla Pass (5,486 m). Enjoy spectacular vistas of the surrounding villages and mountain landscapes. At Tsoltak, see yak herds grazing, then continue to Durbuk before reaching the mesmerizing blue brackish waters of Pangong Lake. Stretching over 144 km, with two-thirds in Tibet and one-third in India, this stunning high-altitude lake offers an unparalleled connection with nature. After ample time to explore, begin your return drive to Leh.

Day 08Indus Valley Monasteries & Stok Palace

After breakfast, embark on another cultural day tour to key monasteries of the Indus Valley. Visit Shey, home to the giant gold-gilded Buddha statue; Thiksey Monastery, renowned for its tiered architecture and the colossal statue of Maitreya Buddha; and Hemis Gompa, Ladakh’s largest and richest monastery with an illustrious history. Later, visit the royal Stok Palace, residence of Ladakh’s erstwhile kings, and its museum, housing a treasure trove of ancient artifacts including thangkas, precious stones, weaponry, and royal regalia.

Day 09Leh → Delhi
